Have you ever considered having a facelift? If you’ve looked in the mirror recently and noticed significant signs of aging, sun damage, or the stresses of daily life taking a toll on your face and neck, you may have asked yourself, what can I do to diminish these effects?
A rhytidectomy, more commonly known as a facelift, can rejuvenate the mid- to lower face and neck. If your face shows signs of aging, deep creases beginning to appear around your mouth or if your neck starts to develop folds and fat deposits, a facelift can significantly improve these aging signs. Many patients who elect to have a facelift also have signs of aging around the eyes which can be improved with an eyelid lift (Blepharoplasty). A facelift and Blepharoplasty can be performed simultaneously. Keep reading to find out about a traditional facelift verses a limited incision facelift and call Suffolk Plastic Surgeons with any questions or to schedule a consultation!
Traditional Facelift
During a traditional facelift, the incision begins at the temples and travels downward toward the front of the ear, just around the earlobe and then behind the ear to the lower scalp where the hairline forms.
Limited Incision Facelift
If you’re looking for to rejuvenate around the jawline, this procedure can achieve that by making short incisions starting at the sideburn and extending along the front of the ear, ending at the earlobe. A limited incision facelift is indicated in an individual with moderate skin laxity.
Recovering from a facelift takes time. If you are considering a facelift procedure, you must be prepared for the possibility of swelling, numbness, bruising, and a feeling of tightness or tension in the face and neck. These signs of healing are all normal and will subside within 3-6 weeks. Someone who has a limited incision facelift can expect a shorter recovery time. It should be noted that if you’re considering a facelift, this procedure is not a permanent solution to the impacts of aging on the face. Instead, a facelift has the ability to rejuvenate the facial features for an extended period of time.
If you are wishing to improve your brow, eyelids or nose, a facelift will not achieve these things, but these are services that Suffolk Plastic Surgeons, P.C. would be happy to talk with you about.
