STEPHEN F. COCCARO, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Coccaro co-founded Suffolk Plastic Surgeons, P.C. with Dr. Adler in 1995. Soon after, they moved into their current East Setauket location, a brand new facility complete with an ambulatory surgical suite and luxurious on-site medical spa.
Originally a Brooklyn boy from Xaverian High School, Dr. Coccaro now calls Setauket his home. He graduated with honors from New York University in 1981 as a member of the Beta Lambda Sigma Biology Honor Society and went on to State University of New York’s Upstate Medical Center’s College of Medicine where he graduated in 1985.
Dr. Coccaro has the distinction of dual medical residencies. In 1985, he began his first residency in General Surgery at St. Barnabas Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. In 1990, he headed west for a residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of New Mexico after which he returned to New York and began his career as an associate with Dr. Adler in 1993. He has been Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 1999.
Dr. Coccaro, former Chief of Plastic Surgery and current President of the Medical Board at St. Charles Hospital, also has privileges at several other area hospitals, including Mather, Brookhaven, and Stony Brook University. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine.
Dr. Coccaro is president of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons (NYSSPS). He is a member of more than a dozen medical societies including the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), American Medical Association (AMA), and the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY). He is currently the Secretary of NYSSPS and is a member and past-President of both the Suffolk County Medical Society (SCMS) and Suffolk Academy of Medicine (SAM). Dr. Coccaro is also a fellow of both the American International College of Surgeons (FICS) and the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Dr. Coccaro serves as co-Chairman of Blanca’s House, a local not-for-profit organization of volunteer healthcare providers. He routinely donates his time and travels on frequent missions to underprivileged countries in Latin America to perform hundreds of surgeries on the needy. Dr. Coccaro is also a Board member of Our Lady of Wisdom Regional School and Treasurer of the Strong’s Neck Civic Association.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Coccaro’s interests include reading, skiing, and traveling the world. His passion for travel has taken him to over 70 countries to date.
