Why Millenials Are Choosing Botox & Fillers

Botox is typically associated with those that are middle-aged looking to turn back the clock. However, in our social-media obsessed world it’s no surprise that millennials are also turning to Botox and fillers to look the best online! According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botox procedures have seen a 28% increase and dermal fillers have seen a 32% increase since 2010 among the people between the ages of 20- 29.

Older generations are concerned with correcting damage already done, while people in their 20’s and 30’s are trying to stay ahead of the game and be pro-active in preserving their skin tone and avoiding unwanted lines. Increasingly popular among millenials is preventative Botox. In order to ward off wrinkles, this treats the facial muscles you use more frequently. Many consider it just another form of grooming, like getting a facial or a wax.

What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox is a popular name brand for Botulinum Toxin Type A, an injectable neuromodulator that can weaken select facial muscles to smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This popular treatment can be used in the upper face to improve crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and even lift the eyebrows.

What age should I start getting Botox?

The FDA has approved the formula for those 18 and older. There is no exact age when you should start, but the sooner you treat facial signs of aging, the better your results will be. If a patient is seeing traces of lines in the mid-to-late twenties or early thirties, it’s best to act now! The later you start, it will be much more difficult to achieve the same results.

Will I look frozen?

Botox is not noticeable if injected in small doses by a trained physician. Results will be subtle and natural looking, with patients looking well rested, more open and youthful eyes and more defined brows. Our board certified plastic surgeons at Suffolk Plastic Surgeons will never make your face appear frozen!

What Are Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable formulas, similar to Botox, but they do not affect the facial muscles. Fillers add subtle volume and to fill certain facial areas. They are used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, enhancing sunken eyes and achieving fuller cheeks and lips. Fillers can help improve facial proportions, helping patients of all ages achieve subtle results that enhance their natural beauty. It is important to note that with constant changes to the types of filler used and the different approved uses that you should always consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

In the age of selfies and online reviews, millienials feel more comfortable sharing their injectable experiences. That stigma about “having work done” has left as the population in general becomes more open about cosmetic enhancements. Many people feel comfortable sharing their experiences with injectables and even more significant procedures, thanks in part to the popularity of online reviews.

While we never want to rush plastic surgery, Botox and fillers can be a great option to prevent signs of aging. Contact Suffolk Plastic Surgeons, P.C. today at 631-364-0333 to book your appointment!
